Hillside Equestrian Meadows
Hillside Equestrian Meadows is a member collaborative farm in the Northern Lights Horse Rescue network.
Hillside is a diverse community of riders of all levels, who also take in rescue horses as part of our equine community through “Wagon Hope Ministries.” In fact, our rescue horses and Wagon Hope Ministries residents work together to heal and move back into to productive lives. You’ll often hear our residents say they don’t who saved whom: the man, or the horse!
You can visit us at Hillside Equestrian Meadows in Wolcott, CT, and take a lesson! Or learn more about our rescue horses and Wagon Hope Ministries when you find out more below. We often have a rescue ready for adoption, and your support is always welcome.
Hillside Equestrian Meadows is a member farm that started out as a riding facility, and then evolved to add a greater mission. Hillside takes in “rescues” — both human and equine. We call our rescue work Wagon Hope Ministries.
How did Wagon Hope come to be? Hillside Equestrian Meadows attracted kids who had a horse interest. That interest led to working the land, cutting trees, building fences and bringing in the equipment to build barns, add stalls and open a group home for individuals with special needs. With help from family, walls were built and land excavated. Each rescue horse came with a story and everyone pitched in to to watch the transformation. Horses were ridden, often kids would get bucked off and then just get more determined to find ways that got results to build that horsey relationship. And then they would see it was just like that in relationships with people. Treat them the way you want to be treated. Invite them in and make them feel welcome. Work through the hard times.
Wagon Hope Ministries now offers farm life to men who need to regroup from life’s challenges by finding a safe, nurturing environment to recognize, affirm, and celebrate the gifts God gave them. Instruction in life skills, farm and animal care, and spiritual partnering, coupled with temporary housing, assists men through this transitional period to faith-filled independent living.
Our residents often say, they don’t know who rescued whom: the horse, or the man?
We value our cooperative relationship with Northern LIghts Horse Rescue, and we welcome your support.
