Winter is hard upon us now in New England, after an unusually warm fall. We’re getting ready at member farms, sorting and fitting blankets!
Fit, form, and function are all part of the plan. The right size blanket, a suitable style for that horse, and whether it’s a barn sheet, a rain sheet, or a waterproof winter blanket – all three can be important for getting comfortably through a New England winter. So can be going without – horses grow a nice thick coat, and their guard hairs stand up better and help them stay warmer, when they do. But it’s important to have blankets available, too, for those bitter days and nights, and wet / cold / windy weather. So donor support is very much appreciated for these important components of equine care in New England.
